An ornamental. Bright purple, with wide shoulders tapering to a roundedend, measuring about 1/2 to 1 1/2 inches long and 1/2 inch in diameter.Thick fleshed; has earthy, deep, sweet (but not fruity) tones. Commonlypickled (en escabeche), and used decoratively in salads.
