The Mutsu is a golden-skinned import from Japan that is now being
grown in the Northeast. Except for its name, which leaves something to be
desired (it's pronounced mutt-soo), this apple is close to being perfect.
It has a fine flavor, a crisp, juicy texture, and it reaches tremendous
sizes. I've seen some that were as large as a grapefruit. This is the newest
variety on the market and it will take some time before it achieves national
distribution and acceptance.
