The Winter Nelis are small to medium, chubby, greenish-brown pears. Theskin is often rough to the touch because of russeting. It is only fair inflavor. Prior to the imports, it used to be an important variety becauseof its longevity. Winter Nelis were available in late spring, when the majorvarieties were out of season. Today, very few are shipped to market.
