The Flame seedless is a new red-skinned seedless variety that
shows great promise and may someday challenge the Thompson Seedless as our
number one best-selling grape. It has only been around for a few years,
but each year it captures a larger share of the grape market. The Flame
seedless has medium-sized, very crisp and crunchy berries. The color is
a pale red and the flavor is sweet and tasty. The skin is tender. The California
Flame seedless arrive in mid-June and wind up in September. Flame Seedless
are also imported from Chile during the winter months.
The Red Ruby Seedless is another new variety. While they have better
color than the Red Flames, they have less size and flavor, and a tougher
skin than the look-alike Flame seedless. They arrive in market in August,
just as the Flames are winding up their season, and last until December.
A few Red Rubies are also imported from Chile during the winter.
