GALIA

The Galia is fairly new in North America. They are grown in Israel and flown in via jet in November, December, January and February, when most other varieties are out of season. They look like pale-skinned, fairly smooth cantaloupes, but they have a light green flesh. The flavor is quite sweet and they have a nice, smooth, juicy texture. They are usually quite costly. In recent years Galias have also been grown in Latin America and Puerto Rico, but these aren't quite as good as those grown in Israel.
