Black Trumpet A.K.A.: Horn of Plenty, Horn of Death
Flavor and Texture: fruity in odor and taste: flesh is thin, delicate and fibrous.
Description: trumpet-shaped caps spanning 3/4-3 inches in width and flared or wavy at the upper edge. They are waxy. charcoal gray in color with no gills.
Note: in France. the black trumpet is sometimes referred to as la viande des pauvres" meaning poor people's meat, because of its plenitude in difficult economic times.
