NUTRITION
A nut is simply a large seed, encased in a shell, that contains all the
necessary ingredients to start a new plant. It therefore follows that nuts
are nutritional powerhouses for people, too. While specific nutrients differ
by nut variety, almost all nuts are great sources of fiber and vitamin E,
as well as of several essential amino and fatty acids.
Admittedly, nuts aren't the leanest foods around. But while they are high
in fat and calories, the fat that is present in nuts is largely mono unsaturated
or polyunsaturated, forms that may actually lower the risk of heart disease
and stroke.
