2 1/2 quarts sliced apples (9 to 12 apples)
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 dash mace
1/2 tsp nutmeg
3 tablespoons butter
Pare and slice apples. Fill an oblong glass baking dish (about 12"
x 8" x 2") with apples. Mix dry ingredients and sprinkle over
apples-mixing lightly. Dot with butter. Roll pie crust thin; place on top.
Brush crust with cream in cut slits. Bake at 450°F for 15 minutes. Then
reduce heat to 350° and cook for 45 minutes longer.
