1 pound green beans
Microwave Oven Directions: Wash and trim green beans and weigh on a kitchen
scale. Young green beans may be cooked whole; older ones may be cut in 1-inch
pieces crosswise, or cut through the center lengthwise (French style). Place
beans in a glass dish, adding 2 tablespoons water for each pound of beans.
Cover with plastic wrap. Place in microwave oven and cook on high setting
12 minutes per pound. Season with salt and pepper to serve.
Conventional Directions: Wash and trim green beans. Place in saucepan, add
1/2 cup boiling salted water and cover tightly. Simmer until barely tender
(about 20 minutes). Drain.
