Cote de Beaune
Meursault in turn flows into Volnay. A good deal of red wine is grown on this side of the commune, but called Volnay-Santenots rather than Meursault. Volnay's reds have similar characteristics to Meursault's whites; rather soft and delicate, the reds sometimes are rather pale yet with great personality and a long perfumed aftertaste. Volnay makes the lightest wine of the Cote, but it can also be the most brillant. Its life-span is relatively short, perhaps ten years. Caillerets is the great name in Volnay; Champans and Clos des Ducs, belonging to the Marquis d' Angerville, is the best climat on the other side of the village.
