Aus eigenem Lesegut or Erzeuger Abfullung An "Estate"grown wine, a wine solely produced by the wineries own grapes.
Ausiese Spatlese from which any unripe grapes have been rejected(See Category Chart)
Beerenauslese Made from the ripest grapes. (See Category Chart)
Bereich A smaller district within a Gebiet (Region)
Eigene Abfullung Bottled by the producer
Emzellage One individual "designated" vineyard.
Gebiet A wine growing region (Nahe, Rheinplalz(Plalz), Mosel, Rheingau,Rheinhessen)
Grosslage or Grosslagen An area formed by a number of neighboring vineyards (whether in the same village or not) and caired by the name of the best known of them. It is important to distinguish this from a 'site' (Emzellage).
Kabinett The basic grade of Qualitatswein mit Pradikat (See Category Chart)
Perlwein Slightly sparkling wine
Pradikat Sekt A sparkling wine made from at least 60% German wine.
Eiswein Wine made of grapes which were frozen during harvest andpressing, producing an unusually sweet dessert wine. (See Category Chart)

Qualitatswein Superior table wine subject to certain controls. (See Category Chart)
Qualitatswein mit Pradikat Strictly controlled top quality wine.(See Category Chart)
Roseewein or Weissherbst Pink wine made frorn red grapes
Rotling Pink wine made from a mix of red and white grapes.
Rotwein Red Wine.
Schaumwein Sparkling wine
Schillerwein A Rotling, pink, wine from Wurttemberg.
Sekt Sparkling wine made in Germany.
Spatlese Wine made from late-gathered and therefore riper grapes;better than Kabinett. (See Category Chart)
Tafelwein Ordinary table wine, Germany's lowest quality wine. (See Category Chart)
Trocken Dry (with not more than 4 grams per liter of unfermented sugar).
Trockenbeerenauslese Made from grapes which have shrivelled, eitherfrom late gathering and or the "noble rot," Botrytis cinerea,Edelfaule. (See Category Chart)
