MULBERRIES

Mulberries grow on trees and bushes and come in two colors: black and ivory. The black mulberries look like blackberries and the ivory mulberries look like albino raspberries. Both types are quite flavorful and practically seedless. However, they are far too fragile to ship to market.

Mulberry trees are a fine addition to a home garden because not only do they bear fruit with little or no care, they also attract wild birds, especially doves.

While mulberries play no significant role in the United States as a cash crop, they are an important fruit in the Middle East. People of that region not only enjoy them as a fresh fruit but dry them in the sun and use them the way Americans use raisins.
