Cote de Nuits
The wines of Morey-St-Denis hold the middle ground between the elegant
burgundies of Chambolle-Musigny and the powerful products of Gevrey-Chambertin.
In the Cote de Nuits choir they are the tenors, not sopranos or baritones.
Wines of all categories here can taste marvelous. The average quality is
high and you often detect a soft taste of fruit. The Grands Crus are Clos
de la Roche (from where the firmest wines come) Clos St-Denis (characteristically
soft yet substantial wines); Clos de Tart (the exclusive property of the
firm of Mommessin); and Clos des Lambrays (only promoted to Grand Cru in
1981). The Premier Cru Monts Luisants produces an attractive white wine.
