On the right bank of the Rhone, to the north of Valence. The ancient vineyard of the villages of Cornas, dating back to gallo-roman days is produced only from Syrah vines. Known to Charlemagne, St. Louis, and Louis XV, it was termed a very fine "black wine" due to its dark ruby hue. A wine to lay down for Cornas only attains its zenith after a number of years in the cellar.
Tiny appellation with rustic, muscular, long-lived wines.
Red is made from Syrah
Terraced slopes similar to Cote Rotie and Hermitage.
