The northern Rhone consists of dramatic steep terraced granite slopescovered with vineyards overlooking the Rhone river. Where as the southernRhone has a high production in lighter, more approachable wines, the northis a concentration of "grande" vines producing more serious winesthat improve with age. Even the white and sparkling wines tend to be moreserious. Where the southern Rhone red wines are dominated by Grenache,they all tend to be blends of more than one varietal.
