On the left bank of the Rhone between the rivers Aygues and Ouveze, the vineyards of Rasteau occupy the whole parish of Rasteau and two neighboring lots over Sablet, and three near Cairanne. The plants are exclusively highly matured grenache with a natural 15% minimum alcohol content, before any addition of alcohol to control the fermentation according to the standard process for preparing these special sweet wines. Rasteau is worth keeping for a few years three to eight years for the golden, ten, and sometimes more, for the red. This brings out the inner qualities of the wine and they then easily take their place amongst the finest of natural sweet wines.
