COTES DU RHONE VILLAGES
(VAUCLUSE)

Created in 1967 the appellation "Cotes du Rhone Villages" distinguishesthe best of the wines for which the growers voluntarily accept a more vigorouscontrol to ensure that they present the very essence of the qualities oftheir sun and their soil. The seven villages lie within the square formedby Bollene, Vaison-la-Romaine, Orange and Carpentras. The vineyards havepushed to the hilltops the natural herbs, thyme, olives, lavender and floodover the chalky clay soil as far as the approaches to Mont Ventoux. Grenachepredominates, but we see more and more of syrah, adding further to the characterand life of these sumptuous wines. The wise know to lay them down to matureone to three years, according to their alcoholic content, the vinificationmethod, their structure and village of origin. A few white wines may befound as well lithe and vigorous and rose´s especially mouth filling.
